Ford Motor Co. has no plans to sell its Jaguar luxury car brand at the moment, but that could change in the future, a top company executive said Wednesday.
Lewis Booth, chairman of Ford of Europe and vice-president of the company’s Premier Automotive Group, told industry analysts in a webcast from Paris that Jaguar’s status could change as the company goes through a strategic review of all its assets.
“It’s not for sale at the moment,” Booth said. “If that changes we’ll come back to you.”
Asked if that could change, Booth said anything is possible.
“Everything’s on the table,” he said.
His remarks are consistent with previous Ford statements on the possible sale of Jaguar and its other Premier Automotive Group brands, Volvo, Land Rover and Aston-Martin.
The company announced in August that it had placed the Aston-Martin specialty sports car brand up for sale.
When Ford announced its second restructuring plan of the year earlier this month, industry analysts questioned why the sale of the money-losing Jaguar was not included.
JCB interested in buying Jaguar from Ford
LONDON (AP) _ The chairman of privately held construction machinery group JCB is interested in buying carmaker Jaguar from Ford if the brand were split from stablemate Land Rover, the company confirmed Thursday.
The Financial Times reported that Anthony Bamford said that JCB would consider buying the troubled auto unit as a stand-alone company.
“If they (Ford) can separate Jaguar out (from Land Rover), then I’d like to buy it,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the division would need to be downsized.
“The little car (X-type) needs to go. The S-type is critical and the XJ is a very good car, but it needs a re-skin,” he said.
Bamford said he had not approached Jaguar or Ford about his interest.
British-based JCB confirmed that the interview with Bamford had taken place in the United States.
Supercharged Jaguar XKR
Jaguar has revealed its new supercharged sports car – the Jaguar XKR.
Like the XK model, the new supercharged XKR makes intelligent use of practical, modern technology such as an industry-leading aluminium monocoque structure that results in a light and yet very stiff body. An uprated 420bhp (SAE) supercharged V8 engine and calibration of a six-speed automatic transmission deliver accessible, real-world, high performance that makes the XKR an impressive sporting GT.
The XKR’s powerful statement of intent is reinforced by sporting styling cues such as an enhanced front bumper, bonnet louvres and aluminium-finish grilles and side power vents. Unique 19 and 20-inch alloy wheel designs and a quad-exhaust system add to the overall presence.
“The new supercharged XKR captures perfectly the essence of what makes a Jaguar XK so special,” commented Bibiana Boerio, Jaguar Cars’ managing director. “It is a perfect balance of refined Grand Tourer and serious performance sports car, that delivers a truly rewarding and exhilarating driving experience.”
